Hello World!

For now, I intend for this blog to allow me to record my activities as I work through Stanford's Machine Learning class, CS229, taught by Andrew Ng. All in the spirit of one of Alan Perlis' quotes:

"You think you know when you can learn, are more sure when you can write, even more when you can teach, but certain when you can program."

The course was recorded a few years ago and all the material was made available online recently (along with other equally interesting courses) as part of their Stanford Engineering Everywhere initiative.

I applaud Stanford for making such a fantastic contribution to the free dissemination of information and I hope this is a sign of things to come not only from them, but from other universities as well. Incidentally, MIT started doing a similar thing a few years ago, with their Open Course Ware initiative. There are other examples out there, and I will post them as I remember them.

Mechanistician: (n.) one who studies and designs mechanisms.
